Creating a Home-Like Environment for Memory Care Patients

The Hansen House Memory Care facility is designed to lower the anxiety levels of persons with cognitive impairments, such as Alzheimer’s or Dementia. Ultimately the goal for this facility was to try to emulate the home where the residents would enjoy a feeling of independence and have a sense of safety within their new living environment. The kitchen and dining room areas were designed to be a gathering space just like a home environment, and the families of residents are encouraged to use the kitchen. Evidence also shows that the inclusion of pets in the caregiving process is important, so a kennel space to house pets was included in the layout of the facility. Other features include a barber and beauty shop, game room, sitting area for quiet reading, and laundry room.

Alesia Architecture, P.C., has been our trusted partner in the design and construction of three Hansen House memory care facilities.
